Chiswick and Brentford East update

Good morning, as always thank you for being part of Met Engage.

We have been very busy since our last update. As I previously mentioned, July is historically the busiest month for crime. We have been working extremely hard to target key offenders and crime types to stop offences rising. 

We attended court for a male we arrested in May for five counts of shoplifting and theft of a parcel from a doorstep. Steven KELLY 33, of no fixed abode pled guilty to all offences and was given a 26 week prison suspended for 12 months, we also applied for and were granted a Criminal Behaviour Order for 8 years against him that fully ban him from the Chiswick area along with conditions that address his offending.

Another prolific shoplifter we took to court last month was Hassan HANNACH 47, from Chiswick, he convicted of three shoplifting offences and was given a 12 month community and rehabilitation order and ordered to pay £420 compensation. He also received a five-year CBO which includes conditions not to enter commercial premises in the Chiswick High Road area as well as other conditions to address his offending.

Monitoring reported crimes we  noticed a number of linked Commercial Burglaries and took on the investigations to progress. By working with officers from Hammersmith we were able to identify the suspect and arrest him, he was charged with three counts of Burglary and remanded for court. Richard CONNICK 54, of Cromwell Road pled guilty to all offences and was sentenced to a total of 9 months in prison. 

We also followed up on a number of investigations relating to a well known Chiswick individual, taking them ourselves to progress. We arrested and charged him with two counts of shoplifting, one of theft of pedal cycle wheels and one of theft of over £9000 of lead from a shop roof. He has pled guilty to all offences and will be sentenced next month.

Whilst conducting a motor vehicle crime operation we responded to a call of youths with suspected stolen mopeds. We attended the scene with officers from emergency response and pro active teams. On arrival five suspects made off and were chased on foot, all five were detained and arrested for theft of motor vehicles, they have been bailed to a later date for further enquiries. Three recently stolen mopeds were recovered and returned to their owners.

We made other arrests in the month including a female for Handling stolen goods and a prolific Burglar on recall to prison. We also arrested an individual who was breaching his recently issued CBO banning him from Chiswick. He has been left in no doubt that we will take a zero tolerance approach to him breaching his conditions.

Even with all this work we managed to fit in a Coffee with Copper at Gunnersbury Park Café for Gunnersbury and Brentford East residents. We are going to try and arrange monthly drop in there and will look to do some activities such as Bike Register markings in future.

A last story of note is some excellent work under pressure by PC Dan Roach of Brentford East and PC Ash Anbarasu of Chiswick Homefields, at the weekend they along with some of the team were working in Gunnersbury Park to conduct reassurance patrols for the Middlesex Pride celebrations being held there. During the day they were made aware that a male had collapsed and was in cardiac arrest. St John’s were on scene and PC ROACH and PC ANBARASU initially assisted them before working with LAS to conduct CPR on the male whilst Paramedics worked on medication and defib. The casualty eventually reacted to the defib after a number of attempts and was stable when he was taken by HEMS to hospital. We all wish him a speedy recovery. The incident is an excellent example of how our neighbourhood officers are able to quickly react to changing and challenging circumstances to help the public.
